Re-launch of the CSL scanning service
The Central Science Library is pleased to announce the re-launch of its document scanning service.
With the re-launch comes a change of name. The service will now be known as Scan and Deliver. The other major change, that users will need to be aware of, is that we will now be charging for the service. There are two methods of payment, online and by post.
Remote payment for this service can be made using the University's online store. There is a short registration process to go through when you make the first payment.
If you wish to pay by cheque or departmental order form that is acceptable but users should be aware that the request will not be processed until payment has been received. If you chose this method can specify on the web form in 'additional information.
We are required by law to make the charge and it is only intended to recoup our costs in providing the service
The charges will be as follows:
Current University students: £1.25 per item requested
Current University staff: £1.25 plus 20% VAT per item requested.
The service will function pretty much as before, users will submit requests using the online form.Once received staff will check the request and email users with the relevant link where they can make payment.
Once we have received notification that payment has been made we will process the request.
Users of the service are reminded that this does fall within the restrictions of copyright law and as such documents are provided under certain conditions.
As a user of the service you are required to agree that, on receipt of your request/s, you will:
1. Delete the attached file from your computer as soon as you have either made a satisfactorily printed copy or read it on screen - no archiving or retaining the file in any form
2. Not pass on the electronic copy or make it available to any other person
3. Not make further printed or electronic copies
As before, the service will aim to deliver documents within a 24 hour time frame once payment has been received.

Filming at the CSL
As part of an outreach event, taking place in February, the
library will be playing host to a film crew on Thursday evening this week (31st
Jan.).
This will mean that from 6pm onwards the 2nd floor area will
be closed to all readers.
Readers working in the library will be able to use the area,
the materials shelved there and IT area until 6pm, after which they will have
to move to the 1st floor area – which will remain open as usual.
The toilets on the ground floor will be open throughout the
evening.
Apologies for any inconvenience this will cause.
